Founded in 1963 by tractor manufacturer Ferruccio Lamborghini, who by his own account started building cars in part to compete directly with Ferrari.[1] The company passed through several owners after Lamborghini himself sold out in the early 1970s (including a period in receivership) before Audi bought it in 1998, and it has been part of the Volkswagen Group, under Audi, ever since.

Logo: File:Lamborghini - logo wordmark+payoff (Italy, 1963-).svg · Self made. Displayed unmodified to identify this car, editorially and without any suggestion of endorsement or affiliation. Commons records the file as public domain for copyright purposes with an explicit 'trademarked' restriction; the basis for display here is trademark nominative use, not a copyright licence.
Accent colour: Sampled from the mark's own SVG source, which fills its path with no colour attribute (default black). No official coloured Lamborghini brand-guideline hex could be sourced; the shield/bull crest, which is more commonly associated with the brand's gold, is not available on Commons in a form that identifies a specific hex value either, so the wordmark's own colour is recorded honestly rather than a commonly cited but unsourced gold.
