The Gallardo, like the Murciélago, never had a second generation article of its own; Lamborghini kept the same platform for ten years and revised it in place, so this entry covers the whole run and treats each revision as a trim.[1] The car shared its underpinnings with the Audi R8, the first fruit of Volkswagen Group ownership showing up as shared engineering rather than shared styling.
The headline change came in 2008: a new “odd firing” 5.2-litre V10 replaced the original 5.0-litre unit, raising output from 500 PS/368 kW to 560 PS/ 412 kW while Lamborghini also cut weight. The infobox’s own weight figures are a set of separate magazine test weights rather than one consistent factory spec (a Car and Driver figure for the base coupé, a Motor Trend figure for the LP 560-4), so the two trims here are sourced from different tests rather than the same one at two points in time.
Lamborghini also sold a rear-wheel-drive-only variant, the LP 550-2, alongside the standard all-wheel-drive cars late in the run; it is not broken out as its own trim here, since its figures largely track the LP 560-4 it was based on.
