Founded in Seoul in December 1967 by Chung Ju-yung, Hyundai began building cars under licence from Ford before launching the Pony in 1975 (the first mass-produced South Korean car sold under a Korean brand).[1] It closes a real gap in this catalogue’s origin taxonomy: no South Korean marque had previously been catalogued here.
Hyundai is the flagship brand of the Hyundai Motor Group, which also owns Kia and the luxury marque Genesis; Hyundai itself is now one of the world’s largest carmakers by volume, with plants across Asia, Europe and the Americas.
