The original Tucson, revealed in 2004 as a unibody crossover positioned below the Santa Fe, sharing its Elantra-derived platform with the second-generation Kia Sportage.[1] It was built and sold far beyond Korea: assembled in China, India and Brazil, and marketed in Japan simply as the “Hyundai JM.”

Three engines are recorded here: a 2.0-litre four, a 2.7-litre V6, and a 2.0-litre CRDi diesel, each in its original tune of 2004-2006. A more powerful, 140/150 PS tune of the same diesel engine arrived from 2006, and is a different figure describing a later car; it is not the number attached to this trim. The car’s kerb weight is only published as a range across the whole line-up (1,470-1,529 kg), so the lowest figure is recorded at generation level rather than assigned to any one trim.
