Assumptions

  • This figure belongs to a 101.6 mm barrel. It is shown because it is the closest measurement that exists, not because it applies here.

Loaded mass

How Loaded mass is calculated

m_loaded = m_empty + m_magazine + n · m_cartridge

Not calculated: m_magazine has no sourced figure yet. Nothing is substituted for a missing input.

Assumptions

  • One magazine, filled to the stated capacity. Spare magazines, optics, slings and lights are the owner’s, not the arm’s.

Free recoil

How Free recoil is calculated

E_recoil = ½ · m_firearm · v_recoil²

Inputs

  • m_firearm2.5 kg5.512 lbestimatedFrom the Wikipedia infobox, uncited there. Stated with an empty 30-round magazine and a red dot sight fitted, not a bare-receiver mass.
  • v_recoil1.072 m/s3.518 fpsestimated

Assumptions

  • Propellant gas momentum is excluded: ARMAG does not record charge weights. This is therefore a lower bound on the real free recoil, consistent between entries but smaller than a figure that includes the gas term.
  • Free recoil: the arm is unrestrained. Stock design, muzzle devices, stance and shooter mass are not modelled, because none of them is a property of the arm.

Assumptions

  • Cyclic rate held for the whole magazine, no stoppages, trigger held down. A theoretical figure for comparing mechanisms, not a measured one.

Sight error at 1 mm

How Sight error at 1 mm is calculated

θ = atan(misalignment / sight radius)

Not calculated: sight radius has no sourced figure yet. Nothing is substituted for a missing input.

Assumptions

  • Shows what a stated aiming error costs. The misalignment is the reader’s figure; the site does not claim how well anyone aims.

Scale

A to-scale outline against family siblings. The dimensions are sourced; the shape is a representative outline for the type, and says so.

  • Brügger & Thomet APC9597 mm23.50 inheight not recorded

Representative outline: the dimensions are sourced, the shape is not. Overall length, and barrel length where recorded, are drawn from this entry's own figures; the profile is a generic one for the firearm type and says nothing about this arm's actual contours. Brügger & Thomet APC9 records no height, so its outline is drawn at the type's proportion. That height is part of the shape, not a measurement.

Detail

The APC9 is Brügger & Thomet’s second-generation submachine gun, introduced in 2011 as a design the Swiss maker built to be cheaper to produce than the intermediate-cartridge carbines that were displacing submachine guns from police and military service at the time. It carries over the pistol-calibre magazines B&T had already sold with its earlier MP9, but is a fresh design rather than a development of it, with a polymer lower receiver, magazine and folding stock alongside an aerospace-grade alloy upper.

Mechanically the APC9 is a straight blowback arm firing from a closed bolt, with a proprietary hydraulic buffer built into the receiver’s back plate to soften recoil rather than the roller- or lever-delayed systems some contemporaries use to tame a blowback pistol-calibre gun. Its barrel uses locking lugs in the H&K MP5 style, and the trigger group is functionally the same unit fitted to the AR-15 family, which lets it accept a wide range of aftermarket AR-pattern parts. B&T states more than half of the APC’s parts carry across its different chambering variants unchanged.

The APC9 is the pistol-calibre branch of a wider APC family; B&T also sells it rebarrelled for .40 S&W, 10mm Auto and .45 ACP, chamberings that share the same blowback action and are recorded on this page as alternative chamberings of the same design. The APC556 and APC308 variants are a different design in substance rather than name: they fire 5.56×45mm NATO and 7.62×51mm NATO respectively from a gas-operated rotating-bolt action rather than the APC9’s blowback, which changes both the operating system and the primary cartridge family, so each has its own entry. In 2019 the U.S. Army’s Sub Compact Weapon programme selected the APC9K variant, and the type has since been adopted by several police and special-operations units, including in Argentina and Lithuania.

No maker specification sheet for the APC9 was found with figures independent of Wikipedia’s uncited infobox, so the mass, length, barrel length, cyclic rate and effective range on this page are recorded as estimated rather than verified. No magazine capacity for the .40 S&W, 10mm Auto or .45 ACP chamberings is sourced, and no rifling twist rate is published for any chambering.
