About ARMAG
A free, non-profit reference for modern firearms: one page per firearm, one per cartridge, one per manufacturer, joined by a lineage graph and driven by a real physics engine. No login, no advertising, no cookies, no tracking, no backend.
What makes it different
Anyone has a spec sheet. The difference here is that every number is either sourced or derived from sourced numbers by a formula you can open and check. There is no third category.
Each figure carries a status. Verified means a cited source states it, and the citation is a link you can click. Estimated means we worked it out, and the panel tells you from what. Sources disagree means the published record itself conflicts, and the note says how. Not recorded means we do not know — an honest gap, never a plausible-looking guess.
Derived figures inherit the worst status of their inputs. Feed an estimate into a calculation and the result is marked as an estimate, however confident the arithmetic looks. A figure with no number behind it is not computed at all.
None of that is a promise about how carefully the entries were written. It is enforced by the build: a figure marked verified with no link fails it, a source note hedging with "approximately" or "same as" fails it, and two entries whose prose reads too much alike fail it naming both files. Figures are transcribed from published sources and may contain errors, including errors present in those sources. Derived figures are models: they describe idealised conditions, not the arm in your hands on the day. Check anything that matters against the source we cite, and where safety is involved, against the manufacturer.
Nothing here tells you what you may lawfully do. ARMAG carries no jurisdiction data and no legality flags, by deliberate decision — see the editorial policy. The site states what a firearm is, never what a reader may do.
Tone
Encyclopedic throughout, including on arms associated with atrocity or crime. Facts, sourced, without celebration and without editorialising. An arm's history is part of what it is, and omitting it would be its own kind of dishonesty.
There is no damage, lethality or "stopping power" figure anywhere on this site, and there never will be. Muzzle and retained energy are physics and appear prominently; stopping power is discredited pseudoscience with no unit and no measurement behind it.
What it keeps, and where
There is no backend, no account and nothing to sign in to. Whatever the site remembers — your armory, your comparison, your units, your theme — stays in your own browser and never leaves it. That also means it lives in one browser on one device, and the site cannot move it for you; the armory can hand you a backup file or a share link, and those are the only ways it travels.
No serial number field exists anywhere in the schema, in local storage, or in a share link. A test asserts it, on every build.
