Founded by André Citroën in June 1919, and for its first fifty years the most technically adventurous mass-market carmaker in Europe.[1] Front-wheel drive, monocoque construction and self-levelling hydropneumatic suspension all reached ordinary buyers through Citroën first, usually at some cost to the company’s finances.
