Founded in 1911 by racing driver Louis Chevrolet and General Motors founder William C. Durant, and acquired outright by GM in 1918, Chevrolet has spent most of its history as GM’s high-volume, mainstream marque: the brand built to sell more cars than Ford, not to sit above Cadillac.[1] Its one enduring exception is the Corvette, a sports car Chevrolet has built continuously since 1953 and which General Motors has never let become anything other than a Chevrolet.
