The final Impala, launched for 2014 on GM’s extended Epsilon II platform shared with the Cadillac XTS and Buick LaCrosse, and the first full-size North American sedan in twenty years to earn Consumer Reports’ top rating, 95 out of 100.[1] Three engines were offered across its run: a 2.5-litre four as the volume choice, a 3.6-litre V6 at the top, and a 2.4-litre four with belt-alternator-starter mild-hybrid assistance (“eAssist”) in between, dropped along with the plain 2.5 in the car’s final 2020 model year, which was sold with the V6 only.
A CNG bi-fuel version, built on the 3.6, was also offered to fleet and retail buyers from 2015 (briefly the only factory-built full-size CNG car sold in North America) but is not broken out as its own trim here since the source gives it only a combined driving range, not a separate power or economy figure of its own.
