Detail

Founded in December 1981 as Daewoo Precision Industries, the company has been South Korea’s principal small-arms manufacturer for more than four decades under a succession of names that track its corporate ownership rather than any change of product line: Daewoo Precision Industries, Daewoo Telecom, Daewoo Precision, S&T Daewoo, S&T Motiv, and — since 2021 — SNT Motiv. It supplied the Republic of Korea Armed Forces with the K1 and K2 service rifles from the 1980s and has continued the K-series designation through later sniper rifles, machine guns and pistols, alongside an automotive-parts business that today accounts for most of its revenue. The firm is headquartered in Gijang-gun, Busan, and trades on the Korea Exchange.

No free source publishes a separate founding date for the arms division as distinct from the parent company; the 1981 date above is the company’s own incorporation.
