Porsche’s first SUV, on sale since 2002 and the car that funded much of the sports-car range that followed it.[1] It was Porsche’s first V8-engined model since the 928 ended production in 1995, its first vehicle with four doors, and its first off-road-capable model since the Junior and Super tractors of the 1950s. It was developed jointly with Volkswagen, sharing its platform with the Touareg and, later, the Audi Q7.

This entry covers the first two generations: the 9PA of 2002, developed alongside the Touareg from the ground up, and the 92A of 2010, lighter and lower than its predecessor and the first to offer a plug-in hybrid variant. The third generation (9YA, 2017-present) is a gap in this catalogue.
