Opel’s compact-class nameplate since 1991, replacing the Kadett and taking a name Vauxhall had already used in Britain for two Kadett generations sold as the “Vauxhall Astra”.[1] It has been sold under half a dozen badges around the world (Vauxhall, Holden, Chevrolet and, briefly, Saturn in North America) and is now into its sixth generation. This entry covers three: the original Astra F, the Astra H that carried the nameplate’s best-known hot-hatch variant and its only trip to the US market, and the current Astra L.
