Opel’s replacement for the Kadett E, launched in September 1991 and grown slightly in every dimension except wheelbase over its predecessor, with the extra length going into a windscreen pushed forward for more cabin volume.[1] It was sold worldwide under other badges from the start: as the Vauxhall Astra in Britain, the Holden Astra in Australia and New Zealand, and, confusingly, as the Opel Kadett in South Africa, where the outgoing name stuck around on the hatchback even as the saloon and estate switched to Astra.

No generation-level or per-trim kerb weight is recorded here: unlike the later Astra H, this generation was never sold in the US or Canada, so neither Wikipedia’s own article nor the NHTSA and EPA registers this site otherwise draws on for a missing figure have one to give.
