Founded in Rüsselsheim in 1862 as a sewing-machine maker, Opel added bicycles before it built its first car in 1899, the year recorded here as its founding, to match the automobile-only scope of this site.[1] It spent almost ninety years as General Motors’ European arm, from 1929 until GM sold it to the French PSA Group in 2017; PSA’s later merger with Fiat Chrysler folded Opel into Stellantis, its current owner.

Logo: File:Opel logo 2023.svg · Opel. Displayed unmodified to identify this car, editorially and without any suggestion of endorsement or affiliation. Commons records the file as public domain for copyright purposes with an explicit 'trademarked' restriction; the basis for display here is trademark nominative use, not a copyright licence.
Accent colour: Sampled from the mark's own SVG source, which fills its paths with no colour attribute (default black). Opel's badge is commonly rendered in a yellow ring on official materials, but no specific hex value for that yellow could be sourced from Commons or this file, so the mark's own colour is recorded instead.
