Detail

SIG Sauer AG is a Swiss arms manufacturer based in Neuhausen am Rheinfall, tracing back to a Swiss railway-wagon manufacturer founded in 1853 that began building firearms for the Swiss Army the following decade and was later renamed Schweizerische Industrie-Gesellschaft (SIG). It designed and built the SG 550 rifle family, adopted by the Swiss Army as the Stgw 90, and has traded under several names over the twentieth and twenty-first centuries — including SIG Holding and Swiss Arms AG — as its parent group’s non-firearms businesses split away into what is now the separate packaging company SIG Group.
