The second and final R8, launched in 2015 on the Modular Sports System platform it shared with the Lamborghini Huracán, and sold until Audi retired the nameplate altogether in 2024.[1] The V8 option was dropped entirely (every Type 4S is a V10), and no manual gearbox was offered, both firsts for the car.
The trim recorded here, the V10 RWD introduced in 2019, is unusual for an R8: Audi’s quattro system had been standard or optional on every version of the car until a limited-run rear-drive RWS model in 2017 proved popular enough that a permanent rear-drive V10 followed. Dropping the front differential and driveshafts saves 65 kg over the equivalent all-wheel-drive coupé and shifts the weight balance to a 40:60 front/rear split, the only weight-distribution figure Wikipedia’s article states directly for this generation.
