Vickers-Armstrongs

Vickers-Armstrongs Limited was formed in 1927 through the merger of Vickers Limited and Armstrong Whitworth’s armaments business, combining two of Britain’s largest heavy-engineering and arms concerns into a single company that built ships, aircraft, tanks and small arms through the Second World War and after. It was broken up between 1977 and the early 1980s, with its assets split and its shipbuilding and aircraft interests largely nationalised into successor state enterprises.
