Pindad

PT Pindad (Persero) is Indonesia’s state-owned small-arms and munitions manufacturer, headquartered in Bandung. Its institutional lineage traces back to workshops the Dutch colonial administration established in 1808, renamed and reorganised repeatedly under Dutch, Japanese and then Indonesian control before being nationalised after independence; the name “Pindad” — from Perindustrian TNI Angkatan Darat, “Indonesian Army Industries” — dates from 1962, and the company took its present form as a state-owned limited company later still.

Pindad is best known for the SS-series assault rifles that replaced the Indonesian military’s imported rifles from the 1990s onward, alongside sidearms, machine guns, ammunition and armoured vehicles for the Indonesian Armed Forces and National Police, with a smaller export business to other states in the region.
