Detail
The Koishikawa Arsenal, formally the Imperial Japanese Army Tokyo Arsenal, opened in 1871 in the Koishikawa district of Tokyo, soon after the Meiji Restoration, on the grounds of the former residence of the lords of the Mito Domain. Among its early products was the Murata rifle, the first rifle produced in Japan, and by 1893 it was turning out about 200 rifles a day. It was the principal maker of the Arisaka Type 38, building an estimated two million of them between 1906 and 1932, and it also produced Mauser-pattern rifles for Siam and, after the First World War, aircraft. The Great Kantō earthquake of 1923 destroyed much of it, and rather than rebuild in Tokyo the army transferred the arsenal to Kokura, on Kyūshū, in 1935. No emblem or wordmark for the arsenal is published by any free source.
