    Detail

    A competition over-and-under, and the only arm on this site designed against a discipline rather than against an opponent or an animal. Clay target shooting is repetitive in a way that field shooting is not — a trap shooter may fire two hundred rounds in a day, in the same stance, at targets on nearly the same line — and a gun built for it is heavy on purpose, balanced between the hands, and fitted with a stock cut for one discipline only. The 682 is sold in trap, skeet and sporting configurations that are not interchangeable.

    Beretta’s box-lock action here uses conical locking lugs at the sides of the monobloc rather than a bolt running under the barrels, which lets the receiver be shallower than most over-and-unders. A shallow receiver puts the lower barrel closer to the hand and reduces the muzzle flip the second shot has to be taken through.

    This entry is thin, and honestly so. The encyclopedia article is four kilobytes long: it publishes five barrel lengths without naming a standard, no weight, no overall length and no receiver dimensions, and Beretta’s own current catalogue no longer lists the model. What is recorded here is what can be sourced.
