Detail

Switzerland’s service rifle cartridge from 1911 until the 1990s, and the reason Swiss surplus ammunition still has the reputation it does. The GP 11 loading was made to a standard that most armies reserved for match ammunition: a boat-tailed 11.3 g bullet, tightly controlled charges, and lot-to-lot consistency good enough that shooters bought decades-old surplus specifically to compete with it.

The cartridge was designed around the straight-pull Schmidt–Rubin action rather than the other way round. A straight-pull bolt has no primary extraction cam to break a stuck case free, so the case wants a gentle body taper and a chamber cut precisely — which the country that built it could afford to do.
