The current Passat, and the first generation sold in Europe as an estate only: Volkswagen dropped the saloon body from the mainstream European range entirely, leaving the Škoda Superb to cover that shape within the group.[1] A saloon derivative continues in China as the separately badged Passat Pro, which this entry does not cover.

Every non-hybrid petrol and diesel engine in this generation is paired only with a dual-clutch automatic; unlike its predecessor, no manual gearbox is offered at all.
