Generations

The Supra began as an elongated, six-cylinder Celica, built after North American dealers asked Toyota for a rival to the Datsun 280Z.[1] It ran through four generations to 2002, then vanished for seventeen years before returning in 2019 as the GR Supra, co-developed with BMW and sharing its platform, engines and Austrian factory with the BMW Z4.

This entry covers the launch A40/A50 generation, sold as the Celica Supra outside Japan, and the revived GR Supra (J29/DB); the three generations between are not authored here.
