The Hilux began production in March 1968, developed and built for Toyota by Hino Motors to sit beneath the larger Stout.[1] Sold in North America as the Toyota Pickup and then Toyota Truck until the Tacoma replaced it there in 1995, it has continued everywhere else through eight generations and a reputation, cultivated largely by amateur destruction testing, for being nearly impossible to kill.

This entry covers the launch N10 generation and the current eighth generation (AN110/120/130); the six generations between are not authored here.
