Revealed in Berlin in June 2016, the second Panamera grew slightly in every dimension and moved onto the Volkswagen Group’s new MSB platform.[1] It dropped the first generation’s liftback-wagon look for a shape with a clearer visual link to the 911, and added a proper estate body of its own, the Sport Turismo shooting-brake, alongside the saloon.
Three trims are recorded here: the base turbocharged V6, the twin-turbo V6 Panamera 4S, and the twin-turbo V8 Panamera Turbo. In September 2017 the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo, combining this generation’s V8 with an electric motor for 680 PS combined, became the most powerful production estate car sold anywhere (beating the Mercedes-AMG E63 S and Audi RS6 Performance of the day), but its extra electric-motor figures are not recorded here as a separate trim, since power and torque are the only consistent axis across every trim in this entry.
In September 2018 Porsche announced it would drop diesel power from the Panamera range entirely, following the discovery that certain 4S Diesel models exceeded permitted emissions limits during independent testing.
