Built to mark Ferrari’s fortieth anniversary and the last car Enzo Ferrari personally signed off before his death in 1988, the F40 was a road-legal version of the abandoned 288 GTO Evoluzione Group B programme, stripped back rather than dressed up.[1] No carpets, no radio, no power steering, and door panels that were just a fabric pull-cord over bare composite. This entry covers the single road-going generation, 1987-1992; the LM, Competizione and GTE competition derivatives that continued in small numbers to 1996 are not authored as separate trims here.
