Theodor Bergmann founded this Gaggenau arms company in 1894 after an earlier career in the ironworks and automotive trades. Bergmann himself was an industrialist and financier rather than a gun designer; Louis Schmeisser did the design work behind the company’s early pistols and its later submachine guns. The firm closed in 1922.
