Established on 20 July 1942 in Izhevsk under the wartime designation Plant 622, the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant became a major Soviet and Russian manufacturer of pistols, sporting arms and other mechanical products, distinct from its larger neighbour Izhmash. In 2013 it merged with Izhmash to form what is now the Kalashnikov Concern.
