Anciens Etablissements Pieper

Founded by Henri Pieper in Herstal, Belgium, in 1884, renamed Nicolas Pieper in 1898 and Anciens Etablissements Pieper in 1905, the firm manufactured arms under its Bayard trade name, among them the 1888 Henri-Pieper rifle, the M1893 carbine, the Bergmann–Bayard pistol and the Bayard 1908 pistol. From 1897 it also built cars, including an early petrol-electric hybrid in 1900; the car factory was taken over by Impéria after Pieper’s death. The arms business stayed in operation until about 1950.
