Stripper clip

A metal strip holding several cartridges by their rims so they can be pushed down into a magazine in one motion.

Also called Charger clip, Charger

Not a magazine. The clip is a loading aid: it holds five or six rounds in line, the shooter presses it into guides above an open action, sweeps the cartridges down into the magazine with a thumb, and throws the clip away.

The Mauser 98, the Mosin-Nagant, the Lee-Enfield and the K31 all load this way. It is why a bolt-action rifle with an internal magazine can be reloaded almost as quickly as one with a detachable box, and why the detachable box did not become universal until self-loading rifles made a partly empty magazine worth swapping out.
