The .22-250 Remington necks the .250-3000 Savage case down to .224 calibre, a wildcat design credited to Grosvenor Wotkyns, J.E. Gebby and J. Bushnell Smith in 1937 that Remington did not turn into a factory cartridge until 1965. The larger case behind a small, light bullet gives it one of the highest muzzle velocities of any commercially loaded rifle cartridge, and it has been a standard choice for varmint and predator shooters ever since, prized for a flat trajectory over the ranges at which that kind of shooting is usually done.
Wikipedia’s infobox cites Hodgdon’s online reloading-data tool for its five listed loads, but that tool publishes velocities tied to a specific handloaded charge weight rather than to a factory cartridge, so none of those figures are usable here; this entry instead draws its loads from Hornady’s own factory-ammunition pages. An Ackley Improved wildcat variant with a sharper shoulder and less body taper exists but is not a separate standardised cartridge and is not modelled as its own entry.
Every dimension in this entry comes from the C.I.P. datasheet for “22-250 Rem.”. Both loads are Hornady’s own 50- and 55-grain V-MAX factory products, with bullet mass and muzzle velocity read from Hornady’s own product pages, each stating a 24-inch test barrel.
