The fourth generation, and the first sold in Japan under the Yaris name itself. The Vitz badge it inherited was retired at launch.[1] Built on Toyota’s dedicated small-car TNGA-B platform, it also underpins the GR Yaris rally homologation car and, since 2022, a rebadged Mazda2 Hybrid. That is an unusual direction for a platform-sharing arrangement that normally runs the other way.
Dimensions here are the Europe-market figures, which differ from the Japan-market car by tens of millimetres in every direction; Toyota held the JDM car to Japan’s “compact car” width class deliberately. The hybrid’s 85 kW is a published combined system figure; the engine alone makes only 67-68 kW, and the two cannot be added because they peak at different points.
