Unveiled at the March 2018 New York International Auto Show on Toyota’s TNGA-K platform, shared with the XV70 Camry, the fifth RAV4 dropped diesel entirely and leaned harder into the hybrid drivetrain that has come to define the nameplate.[1] In December 2019 it gained a plug-in hybrid variant, sold as the RAV4 Prime in North America, whose 302 hp combined output briefly made it the second-quickest model in Toyota’s entire lineup after the GR Supra.
Both trims record combined, published system power figures rather than a sum of engine and motor outputs. That is the same discipline this site applies to every hybrid. The Prime’s torque figure, by contrast, is the combustion engine alone: Toyota publishes an uprated engine torque figure for the Prime over the standard hybrid, but no combined system torque figure for either, so this entry does not invent one.
