The Celica ran for thirty-six years and seven generations, from a 1970 coupé built to answer the Ford Mustang to a 2006 front-wheel-drive liftback sold as part of Toyota’s failed Project Genesis push for younger US buyers.[1] It spawned the Celica Supra/Celica XX, which split off as its own Supra nameplate in 1986, and a rally-bred GT-Four all-wheel-drive line that ended with the fifth generation.
This entry covers the launch A20/A30 generation and the final T230 generation; the five generations between are not authored here.
