Generations

Peugeot’s best-selling model ever, with more than 8.3 million sold worldwide by 2012, and Autocar’s thirtieth-longest-lived single-generation car when it counted in 2020.[1] It replaced the 205 in 1998 and, in one market or another, was still being built and sold (as the 206+, the 207 Compact, the 207i or the 206 SD) for over two decades after its original launch.

This entry covers the original European-market T1 generation, from its 1998 launch to the end of French production in 2012. The many rebadged and facelifted continuations sold elsewhere (Brazil, Iran, China and Latin America chief among them) are gaps in this catalogue, not omissions from the car’s history.
