The third Pajero, launched in Japan in August 1999 and elsewhere as a 2001 model, replaced the earlier body-on-frame construction with a unibody over an integrated ladder frame (Mitsubishi’s RISE reinforcement system) aimed at better rollover strength and torsional rigidity without sacrificing the durability off-road recovery work demands.[1] The Super Select 4WD system gained fully electronic, on-the-fly switching and a 50:50 front-rear torque split option, badged Super Select 4WD II. A 2003 facelift brought power increases across most of the range and moved the diesel’s intercooler to the front of the engine.

Three trims are recorded here, all from after the 2003 facelift: the Japanese-market 3.5-litre GDI V6, the North American 3.8-litre V6 that replaced it in export markets, and the direct-injection 3.2-litre turbodiesel. Every power figure in the source is published directly in kW. Dimensions vary by body style, model year and market to an unusual degree even for this catalogue; the pre-facelift five-door figures are recorded at generation level, with the facelift and three-door variants noted in each field.
