Honda’s compact car since 1972, and the vehicle that established the company as a serious carmaker rather than a motorcycle firm branching out.[1] Its CVCC engine met 1970s American emissions standards without a catalytic converter, at a time when nearly every domestic rival needed one. This is an early technical reputation the Civic has carried ever since.
