The original Mondeo, on sale from November 1992, replaced three different cars in three different regions at once (the Sierra in Europe, the Tempo and Mercury Topaz in North America, and the Telstar across Asia, Australia and South Africa) from a single shared CDW27 platform.[1] In North America it was sold under entirely different names, as the Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique.

Three trims are recorded here: the 1.8 Zetec petrol, the 1.8 Endura-D diesel, and the ST200 of 1999, a Special Vehicle Team-tuned 2.5-litre V6 that replaced the ST24 as the range’s performance flagship, badged Contour SVT in North America. The ST200’s own 0-60 mph time is not converted to a 0-100 km/h figure here, since the two are different speed thresholds; only its manufacturer-quoted top speed, a straightforward mph-to-km/h conversion, is recorded.
