DeLorean Motor Company built exactly one production model in its short existence, and it never carried the name most people know it by: internally the car was the DMC-12, but it was sold simply as the DeLorean.[1] About 9,000 were built between January 1981 and December 1982 at a purpose-built factory in Northern Ireland before the company collapsed into bankruptcy. There was never a second generation: the car described here is the only one there ever was. Cars left unsold or unfinished when the factory closed were completed and sold as 1983 models, which is why that year appears on some of them.
