Audi’s first compact SUV, launched in 2008 to compete with the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLK, and now in its third generation.[1] It shares its underlying MLB and MLB evo platforms with the Porsche Macan and, from its second generation, added a coupé-roofline Sportback body style and a plug-in hybrid.

This entry covers the launch 8R generation and the long-running second generation (FY); the current third generation is not authored here.
