Audi’s flagship saloon since 1994, and the car that introduced the aluminium-bodied Audi Space Frame construction the brand still trades on.[1] It has run through four generations, always with a long-wheelbase L variant and a high-performance S8, and has offered front-drive, quattro all-wheel-drive, W12, and, most recently, plug-in hybrid power.

This entry covers the launch D2 generation and the current D5 generation; the D3 (2002) and D4 (2009) generations in between are not authored here.

Each generation is its own entry, with its own specifications and sources.
