The car that renamed the Audi 80: launched in October 1994 on a new Volkswagen Group B5 platform shared with the contemporary Passat, and widely credited within Audi and Volkswagen for the build quality that made the A4 the company-wide benchmark other models were measured against.[1] It also introduced the 1.8-litre, five-valve-per-cylinder turbo engine recorded on the trim here: the first Volkswagen Group engine with that head design, developed by Audi Sport.

The B5’s generation infobox on Wikipedia leaves kerb weight blank; the figure used here instead comes from NHTSA’s Canadian Vehicle Specifications for the 1996 model year, which is why it is attributed to a different source than the rest of the entry.

The article names this engine only as '1.8 L 20v turbo I4' without stating exact displacement; 1781 cc is the well-documented displacement of Volkswagen Group's 1.8T EA827-family engine of this era, but the article itself does not state the figure, hence 'estimated' rather than 'verified'.
